Museo di Storia Naturale (Natural History Museum)

Last week we visited the Natural History Museum. It was very cool.
David was really into having just been learning about early civilizations,
Homo Erectus and Homo Sapien skulls,
There was a room with mummified crocodiles, and a person thought to be a women. It also had many artifacts from Africa.
Half of the kids liked the two rooms with  heads of about any animal you had ever heard of, the others thought it was quite freaky.
Then there was a hall of glass cases filled with taxidermy of every kind of bird, fish, bug, butterfly.
 Chris loved the enormous crab
David couldn't believe this huge flying squirrel, notice the normal size one in the upper right corner.
Then you walked out under a sperm whale skeleton. The whale had washed ashore in Naples and then it took four days for scientists to remove the skin and flesh. Then it was cleaned and preserved with brought to this museum.  IT WAS ENORMOUS and it would have been on the smaller side. That is David standing just under the head.

Sadly on the way out Chris had an accident from a falling toilet seat that caused lots of blood and pain.  Poor little guy couldn't walk, so that ended our day and we rushed to the closest boat home.  All he wanted was some gelato, so once we got to Lido we stopped we had to stop.  I was carrying Chris, so all the kids carried the cones of gelato.  As we were rushing back to the apartment, David's cone breaks in half and falls to the ground.  By now it is dark so I don't see the dirt and ask to try his flavor and get a mouth full of dirt.  As we are laughing about it and walking the rest of the way, his cone complete disintegrates in his hand and the gelato rolls under a car.  The day ended with all of us laughing...even Chris!

  1. This looks amazing. I am so sorry about Chris and the blood! And no gelato should ever wasted!!! Do kids have a favorite flavor yet? Or do you get something new every time?

  2. They do have their favorite flavors. Allison loves Hazelnut, David likes one called fior di latte, Chris tries a new fruity one each time...typically settling for pear. Bridget will get a salted caramel if they have it. I will usually go for the chocolate!
